Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter aircraft have joined forces with French warplanes in a combined operation on an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The facility, identified by surveillance, was thought to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was located in mountains just north of the historic site of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft employed precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to target a series of approach shafts down to the facility... preliminary assessments are that the objective was successfully hit," the ministry announced.
There was no sign of any civilian impact in the operation late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned safely, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - also known as ISIS - enforced jihadist rule over large swathes of Iraq and Syria before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This operation underscores our UK leadership, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to eradicate any resurgence of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East," Britain's Defence Chief the minister said.
RAF aircraft have performed surveillance missions over Syrian airspace to "forestall any efforts to regroup" of IS after its routing at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I must thank all the members of the UK armed forces participating in this mission for their skill and their valour," Healey commented. "They were among numerous British troops deployed over the festive period. This action, to eliminate terrorist threats who pose a risk to our way of life, highlights how British military are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security at home and powerful internationally."
Last December, the American forces executed what it termed a "major assault" on IS targets in Syria, following an assault resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The U.N. estimates IS still maintains roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in both countries.
